Libertarian candidate for Iowa secretary of agriculture, Rick Stewart, and Iowa Libertarian candidate for the 4th District of the U.S. House of Representatives, Charles Aldrich, said it is time for political elites and the mainstream media to start taking Libertarian candidates more seriously.
"The TV media still sees us as a third party, instead of the third major party," Aldrich said. "The distinction is the major party are typically invited for debates where third parties are not and since we are a third major party, we are not a minor party, I feel we should have a seat at the table."
"There are more registered independents in Iowa than there are either Republicans or Democrats," Stewart said. "Almost everyone of those independents is looking for us, they just don't know our name. The Libertarians represent the best of the left and the best of the right and we don't represent the fringe of either. ... Our major problem is to let the middle third of Iowa voters know that they are represented by a major Iowa political party and that is us."
