The former chairman of the Niagara County Green Party announced over the weekend that he is running to be the next mayor of Lockport.
Wade VanValkenburgh will run as the candidate of the Green Party, a generally left-wing third party, against expected Democratic nominee Michelle Roman and the eventual Republican nominee. Several prominent local Republicans have expressed interest in the nomination, including interim Mayor David Wohleben, Niagara County Legislature Chairman Keith McNall and Alderman-At-Large Larry Eggert.
The winner of the November election will serve out the remaining year of former Mayor Anne McCaffrey's term of office, and will face reelection in November 2019.
