Greenville News: 'Underdog' Guy Furay launches campaign for South Carolina's 4th Congressional District

Hoping to defy long odds, American Party candidate Guy Furay launched his campaign Wednesday for South Carolina's 4th Congressional District.


Best known for his "Guy the Insurance Guy" radio ads, Furay is running against Republican state Sen. William Timmons and Democrat Brandon Brown. The winner will replace outgoing U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy, who decided not to seek a fifth term in a district that includes most of Greenville and Spartanburg counties.


“I am an underdog, but America loves underdogs," Furay said in an interview after he spoke to about 30 supporters at the Cannon Centre in Greer. “I believe that we the people need to take back our republic, to take back our country from the two parties, because I don’t think the two parties are solving our problems.”
